Very deep character customization (visually) matched by a "Skyrim" like skill system (skills level up as you perform them) Of course, the game isn't without it's pros and cons. But the thing is that I just can't recommend it in it's current state because of all of these above things. And yes, obviously it is Early Access and it's not due out until 1st Quarter 2017. It's just disappointing when you spend hours playing, only for your playthrough to be set back HOURS because of things like items/food/people disappearing or being bugged to the point of having to reload an old save. And who can blame them? It's a small studio taking on a project so big that even a AAA developer would probably get this formula wrong. However, my biggest problem is that Kenshi isn't actually a bad game - it's just very, very unfinished. To top it all off, when I go into the Steam Discussions for the game to report bugs or other inconsistencies, the threads get completely ignored (inactive community maybe) or (this one is really funny) I get told that I'm not "playing the game right" (yeah, totally my fault for characters spinning up into the air box then dying or food disappearing from storage but no one ate it). disappear (there seems to be a pattern), or the fact that your squadlings will just stop dead in their tracks, unable to move or do anything for a long time, especially given the "Automated job" system which seems to only work when it feels like it.Īll of these things build up into frustration quickly, and you start to realize that the game isn't actually anywhere near an enjoyably playable experience. You go to slay a herd of goats to feed your Squad, only for the goats to run away faster than a modern day fighter jet and the ones you did manage to kill just. One minute you're bounty hunting, and then you get to town to turn him in and his body just POOFS into thin air. If that doesn't turn off new players, then the bugs surely will. Figuring out how most of these systems work is a job in and of itself, and learning which characters can do what and how well and what you need to craft X item to do Y thing just becomes a bottomless pit of tedium. But then you really get into it, and you find all of these flaws that just seem to get in the way of everything else. At first, these things are all exciting, as the discovery is what really makes this game.

Kenshi seems to have it all at first - brutal difficulty, complex systems and mechanics, deep role-playing potential and tons of customization and personalization.

Only about 1/4 of the map is actually playable right now, and that 1/4th contains so much that it's hard to even imagine the rest of it, and you can have a controllable squad of up to 256 with mods (disclaimer - I am not responsible for your computer frying if you try to do that) Now, you may or may not already know this, but Kenshi is a free-roam, open world, squad based RPG set in a really big and harsh open world. TL DR: Kenshi is a great game, with a lot of innovative and interesting ideas that become quickly buried by the sheer amount of bugs, crashes, unoptimization and confounding inaccessibility. I sincerely SINCERELY hope that the development of this game does not falter (delays are starting to happen for major updates which isn't always a great sign) Let me give you a quick TL DR before I go into details. Not because it's a bad game, but because it intrigued me so much, and then let me down that much more. "I let out a deep sigh whenever I think of Kenshi. As much as I really like Kenshi as a concept, it's just too early and unfinished to truly enjoy.
